Dianella nigra is is a hardy tufted plant resembling a small fine leafed flax. It grows to about 60cm high and bears insignificant flowers from late spring to summer. These are followed by its berries. In the best forms these are a glossy dark blue but can vary to quite pale colours. Grows in sun or semi-shade and in a range of soil conditions in humid areas. Looks good mass planted as a groundcover or as a general garden plant.
